Macduff market cross bears an inscription to the effect that it was rebuilt in 1783. It rests on a square pedestal fixed on the top of a high wall. The shaft is rectangular in section and the head is of a peculiar formation, having a band running in a line with the transverse limbs of the cross, and bearing the motto "Virtute et Opera" above which on both sides of the cross in a recessed panel, are the arms of the town.
