(NJ 7566 6426) Law of Melrose (NR)

OS 6" map, Banffshire, 2nd ed., (1904)

The Law of Melrose is a large cairn situated in a prominent position on top of a ridge at 400ft OD. It is composed of earth and stones and measures 28.5m in diameter and 4m in maximum height. It has been extensively mutilated by the removal of almost the entire N half. Locally supposed to have been a place of execution, (ONB 1869) but this tradition does not seem to have survived.

Re-surveyed at 1/2500.

Name Book 1869; Visited by OS (NKB) 10 February 1965.

No change.

Visited by OS (RL) 25 January 1968.
