The Market Cross originally stood about 50 links east of the present cross in the High Street. The Sherriff's Court was occasionally held at it and, in 1557, an inquest, reputedly the last, was held there. It originally consisted of an upright pillar, raised on a pedestal of circular steps. It was removed in the year 1865. Nothing remains of the old cross.
Name Book 1869; Information from John Hay, Millmoss, Road Surveyor of Turriff District.
