Archaeology Notes

NJ73NW 6 c.741 396.

An Early Bronze Age sandstone mould for a bronze axe, two bars, and possible a knife blade, was found at Burreldales. Now in the National Museum of Antiquities of Scotland [NMAS].

D Britton 1963; Information from NMAS Continuation Catalogue.

According to Mr Nichol (Burreldales, Fyvie) this mould was given to him together with a small collection of artifacts from the Fyvie area by Mr Henderson the Fyvie chemist, now deceased. As far as he is aware the mould did not originate from Burreldales. The bulk of the collection was taken to the Marischal College Museum by Dr W D Simpson about 20 years ago.

Visited by OS (ISS) 24 January 1973.
