(NJ 7457 2485) Liggars' Stane (NR) (site of).

OS 6" map, Aberdeenshire, 2nd ed., (1901)

The Liggars' Stane is a large whinstone, about 7 ft (2.13m) high and 2 ft 0.61m) broad, said to mark the burial-place of the female camp-followers who were slain at the Battle of Harlaw (NJ72SE 6).

'A few years ago, there were two of these stones' but one was broken up and used as building material for a nearby farmhouse.

NSA 1845.

Mr Clark said that the Liggars' Stane is in use as a gate post at the junction of walls at NJ 7470 2488. Although this stone is only 1.6m high it is 0.6m wide and could be the stone described above.

Visited by OS (RD) 6 March 1964; Information from Mr J Clark (Senior), Wester Harlaw.

This stone is still at its modern position.

Visited by RCAHMS (JRS, IF), 22 February 1996.
