In Inverurie Museum is a stone axe, 4 1/2" (114mm) long (Accession no. AF 21) found near the Nursery at Keithhall (NJ 78 21). Part of the John Gerrard collection. Also in the museum from Keithhall is a polished stone axe (Accession no. AF 65) found in 1919.
Information from Accession Register, Inverurie Museum.
Inverurie Museum AF 21 (Clough and Cummins ABN 72) has been petrologically attributed to group XXXII (epidiorite or altered diorite, possibly from the Dalradian of northern Scotland).
Only a fragment remains of Inverurie Museum AF 65 (ABN 102) which has been petrologically attributed to group XXIV (calc-silicate hornfels from the axe-factory at Creag na Caillich, Killin, NN53NE 1).
T H McK Clough and W A Cummins 1988.
The accession number of the stone axe that was found at the Nursery, Keithhall, is PEHMS: I 1019 (formerly AF 21). The collection of Inverurie Museum has been re-catalogued, but the new catalogue is incomplete and there is no easy system of identifying the new accession number of the other axe (formerly AF 65).
