Standing Building Recording (2004)

NS15NE 29.00 16423 55029

NS 1642 5502 A programme of historic building recording was undertaken between September and December 2004 prior to the renovation of the ruined property. The building dates to the 18th century when the house was used as a garrison. However, little of the original building remained as the house was extensively renovated in the 19th century.

Archaeological Evaluation (28 July 2005)

NS 1643 5502 An evaluation was carried out in July 2005 prior to the renovation of Garrison House (DES 2004, 87; NS15NE 29) in an area c 1.2ha. Four trenches totalling 250m2 were opened. No significant archaeological deposits or artefacts were encountered.

Watching Brief (26 February 2007 - 15 May 2007)

A watching brief was undertaken during the redevelopment of ground adjacent to Garrison House, The foundations of two 20th century structures considered to have been a T.B. hospice and subsequently a 2nd World War hospital were unearthed. The building remains consisted of red brick built walls and concrete slab foundations and each measured overall 7m by 48m.
