An Early Bronze Age stone mould, found in or before 1855 in a cairn on the Borough Moor, Kintore, is now in the National Museum of Antiquities of Scotland (NMAS) (Accession no: CM 1). It is oblong, measuring 23.9 by 14 by 4.5cms, and on it are matrices for a flat axe, 16.2 by 9.4cms, a flat casting, probably a knife blade, 9.3
by 3.7cms, and possibly for two bars.

The Burgh Muir (centred NJ 778 164) is now afforested, and there is no local knowledge of any recent finds.

(Mould for flat axe and bars). Single find, in a cairn on Borough Muir. Mould, grey stone, smooth surface, neatly shaped, slight darkening in flat axe matrix. Face A: flat axe, length 162mm, cutting edge 94mm, max depth 10mm; blade (?), length 93mm, width 37mm, max depth 6mm. Face B: two bars (?). NMA (CM 1).

The exact location of the cairn in which an Early Bronze Age stone mould (NMS CM 1) was found before 1855, is not recorded.
