OS 6" map, Banffshire, 2nd ed., (1904)
This chapel wasin ruins in 1857, and had been removed in 1866. The Chapel Well is a spring well in the side of the Cunning Burn.
J Stuart 1859; Name Book 1866.
The site of St Eunon's or Adamnan's Chapel remains a well-marked knowe; and his well is still in daily use.
W D Simpson 1936.
No trace of the chapel remains, the site being marked by a well-defined natural knowe. No trace of the Chapel Well could be found at the site indicated. There is another well or spring at NJ 6834 4981, obviously that referred to by Simpson (1943), in daily use.
Local opinion favours both the Ordnance Survey siting and the name 'St Eunon's Chapel'; although no definite authority could be found.
Visited by OS (WDJ) 10 September 1964.
In April 1967 a new well was sunk at the published site - 6835 4987. The well at 6834 4981 is no longer in use.
Visited by OS (RL) 4 September 1967; Information from Mr A C Duncan, Burnend, Forglen.
