(NJ 6237 3030). In April 1906 Mr Alex Radford jnr found an urn which had been exposed by weathering in the face of a sandpit 100yds E of Mill of Wardes farm. It was inverted in a pit 2ft in diameter and 16 inches deep, and measured 4 inches in diameter at the mouth, and 3 3/8 inches in height. Donated to the NMAS, it was described as of cinerary urn type, but because of its small size Miss Henshall considers it to be a food vessel.

The exact findspot could not be ascertained but the sandpit, now extended, is centred at NJ 6239 3029.

The accession number of this Food Vessel in the Royal Museum of Scotland is NMS: EA171; the sand pit in which it was found in 1906 is first depicted on the 2nd edition of the OS 6-inch map (Aberdeenshire, 1901, sheet xxxv.SW). The pit, which lies immediately E of the farm track to Auchenbreddie (NJ63SW 177), is heavily overgrown.
