OS 6" map, (1959)

(NJ 6760 3126). A mansion house of the Leith's dated 1754, which replaced a castle once situated about 50yds in front of it. Gordon's map, dated 1654, shows a castle here, but its date of erection can not be traced.

Name Book 1869.

No trace and no local knowledge of the earlier castle, and no further information.

Visited by OS (NKB) 27 March 1969.

There are no visible remains of a castle at Freefield; the present mansion dates to the mid-18th century and later.
