Museum devoted to the history of golf in a single storey, simple planned modern building situated adjacent to the R&A Clubhouse. Cut into, and partially covered by the Bow Butts hillocks in order to cause minimal disruption to the historic site and views of the Old Course and sea. Concrete frame, clad in clashach stone. Entrance hall contains shop and waiting area, leading to windowless museum chamber. Audio-visual theatre, offices, and archives to NE. Viewing platform looking on to the course and to Step Rock Pool and West Sands. Interior design by Leslie Gooday. Built by Miller Construction. Metalwork by TW Steven & Partners. Mechanical services and plumbing installations by SCAN building services. Merrylees's original winning scheme was refused planning permission.
