Watching Brief (24 September 2014 - 16 January 2015)
Soil Engineering Ltd commissioned Alder Archaeology to undertake an
archaeological watching brief on engineering test pits being excavated as part of a programme (TA7397) to widen part of the A9 Perth-Inverness road; the pits in question were located between Birnam and Castle Murthly/Tay Crossing to the south/south-east. One additional pit was located at Dalguise. Several pits had been identified in advance as potentially impacting on local archaeology and the brief was to monitor and record each of these pits, which were dispersed along the road corridor between NGR NO 06091 39371 and NO 00501 44491. The requirement was to photographically record and measure each pit and examine any archaeological features exposed. Remains representing a cinder track and an earthen bank (undated) were exposed.
