Archaeology Notes

NT51SW 119 50186 14860

Between 1910 and 1915, the trades directories reference hosiery manufacturers Messrs. Drummond and Laing Ltd., as the occupants of the newly named Wilton Path Mill. After a gap of three years, the building was then occupied from 1918 by Messrs. Peter Scott and Co. Ltd., who continue to use the building as a warehouse.

Turning to Goodfellow, we find that the building was originally built in 1856, as a warehouse for the tweed merchants Messrs. Laing and Irvine. Though he adds that the buildings occupants between 1898 and 1914 were the woollen merchants and dealers Messrs Currie, Lee and Gawn.

Information taken from The Industrial Archaeology of the Tweed and Hosiery Textiles Mills of Hawick, with particular reference to their development, ownership and prime movers between 1820 and 1930, October 1997

During March 1999, RCAHMS conducted a photographic survey of the standing industrial heritage relating to the textile industry in Hawick. The purpose of this survey was to enhance and augment the holdings of the existing National Monuments Record Scotland.

Visited by RCAHMS (MKO), February 1999.
