Archaeology Notes

NJ52NE 34 centred 5745 2929

(Location cited as NJ 574 292). c. 5 acres of low rigs running down N-facing slope.

(Location amended to centred NJ 5745 2929). Traces of rig-and-furrow can be seen in the W half of a large rectangular field roughly halfway up the N flank of Fallow Hill. They extend over an area of about 6ha, and the rigs are aligned N and S. Vertical aerial photographs (106G/Scot/UK 130 5244-5, flown 25 June 1946) reveal other areas of rig on the upper flanks of the hill on the E, S, and W, which are still visible .
