(NJ 5505 2764) Site of (NAT) Holy Well (NR)

OS 6" map, (1959)

The site of a fine spring-well destroyed by draining. Traditionally associated with the Druids. Coles (1902) says that the spring was still pointed out in 1900 as the Holy Well.

Name Book 1866; F R Coles 1902.

All that can be seen of this (? holy) well is a marshy depression from which a stream issues.

Visited by OS (NKB) 20 September 1967.

This site was not visited during the course of the Strathdon survey.
