During May 1999 RCAHMS conducted a photographic survey of the exterior of the 'National' Garage on Burnett Street. The purpose of this was to enhance and augment the existing holdings of the National Monuments Record Scotland.

The former United Free Church is situated in Burnett Street and immediately S of the Luther Water.

The T-shaped in plan church is stone built has a slated roof and a small tower on the E-facing facade. Round-headed windows on three sides with a louvred opening above the main entrance door. The main door has been removed and replaced with a steel lintel and double sliding doors. A second large opening has been cut in the S elevation and a shuttered door built in the space.

The building has several external additions including a stone built lean-to extension to the rear, now unroofed, a small concrete extension on the S elevation and what may have been a small office on the N elevation. In front of the garage door are the surviving remains of two petrol pump bases.

The interior has been completely cleared to accommodate its use as a garage, wooden panelling surrounds the former garage office area and a room through a round-headed arched doorway to the former side chapel, retains a short strip of the original decoration. Evidence of the buildings use as a cinema can be found above another round-headed doorway in the W wall where four bricked-up openings for the projector were noted.
