Activities

Field Visit (25 April 2002)

This long grass- and heather-covered mound lies in a saddle 68.5m to the NE of Cairn Mude (NJ50SE 7) in a clearing within a forestry plantation. It measures 24.5m from NNW to SSE and tapers in breadth from 7.5m to 5.5m towards the SSE. The mound also diminishes in height along its length, falling from 0.7m to 0.5m. Large boulders protrude through the surface of the mound, and are especially visible at the NNW end. But for this end, a skirt forms a continuous feature around the mound, however it is unclear whether this is the remains of a platform, or the result of more recent disturbance by forestry ploughing.
