(NJ 4269 6047). Stone Circle (NR) (Site of)

OS 6", (1959)

A small circle of upright stones enclosing a large cairn was removed some years before 1867 when only one stone remained close to a sharp angle of the wood. Nothing of antiquarian interest was known to have been found.

Name Book 1867; F R Coles 1906.

The stone, in an area of scrubland, is as described by Coles (1906) and is all that remains of this stone circle, which is annotated on Milne's map of 1775 (Plan of the lands of Cairnfield, Thos Milne 1775) as a "stone form'd circle."

Surveyed at 1/2500.

Visited by OS (NKB) 4 August 1964.
