'Refuse disposal works, 55 Kilbirnie St, built from 1882 for Glasgow Corporation Cleansing Depaertment , A.W. Wheatlry, engineer. The first stage cost £25000. A large group of red and white buildings , the most spectacular of which is a two storey stable, , muster hall and store block, 16 bays wide , orignally with 68 stalls, with a Greek key pattern sting course, built 1898-9 (£7500). The main descructore building has 3 wide bays, one of which spans two railway sidings. The complex is dominated by a very tall brick chimney. A pleasing feature ofthe entrance is a neat octagonal weighbridge house'.
J R Hume, 1974
The refuse works is largely gone and only the two storey muster hall, store and stable block survives. The 'key pattern' string course is obscured as the building has been painted and is now in use by a service industry.
