Nothing is now visible of the steading of the croft of Simon Ley, which stood in a cultivated field about 100m W of Loanend farmsteading (NJ62SW 104). It is depicted on a late 18th-century farm plan of the Mains of Leslie (SRO: RHP 5199/4) on which it comprised two buildings, presumably a cottage and a byre/barn, and a garden. The croft extended to just over 5 acres (c.2ha) of arable ground and a little under 4? acres (1.6ha) of pasture. All traces of the croft appear to have been removed before 1870 and neither the buildings nor the earlier field boundaries are depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Aberdeenshire, 1870, sheet xliv).
