'On the point of the Ness of Seatter, 20 yds from the shore of the Loch of Stenness, at the foot of the slope of a slight ridge, is a group of four small mounds, No.1 lying nearest the water, is 13 ft in diameter, No.2 14 ft to the w. 11 ft; No3 20 ft. s of no.2 , 13 ft; and no. 4, 16 ft s. of no.3, 11ft. All are between 18 ft and 2 ft high. A few stones show here and there through the grass and ferns which cover the mounds.'
RCAHMS 1946, visited June 1936. (This entry appears under 'Cairns,Cists etc.', not under 'Burnt Mounds').
These four mounds generally as described above are situated in an area of gorse and heather centred at HY 2755 1265. These mounds are very slight consisting mainly of earth, and are not therefore stone-clearance heaps. The purpose of these features could not be ascertained, but they appear to be of some antiquity.
Surveyed at 1/2500.
Visited by OS (NKB) 15 September 1964.
