Archaeology Notes

NJ53SW 86 52674 31360

For successor bridge (adjacent to N), see NJ53SW 27.

This disused bridge carried the Kennethmont to Gartly public road over the Water of Bogie prior to 1854, when the construction of the Great North of Scotland Railway immediately to the E entailed the construction of a new bridge (NJ53SW 27) to carry what is now the B9002 over both the river and the railway. The old bridge is a single-arched structure, with the span of the arch measuring about 7.5m, its apex standing about 2.8m above the water-level. There are no parapets and the grass-grown roadway is 5.1m in width. On the E the approach ramp of the bridge has been truncated by the railway and on the W it has been cut by the more recent bridge.

Visited by RCAHMS (JRS), 15 March 2000.

This bridge carries the former line of the public road from Kennethmont to Gartly over the River Bogie, which here forms the boundary between the parishes of Kennethmont and Rhynie.

Information from RCAHMS (RJCM), 13 November 2000.
