Archaeology Notes

NJ43NE 4 4709 3999

At NJ 4709 3999 is a cairn now visible as a turf-covered stony mound measuring c. 12.0m in diameter and about 1.0m high. In the SSE and W arcs two earthfast stones of a kerb survive.

The perimeter elsewhere has suffered from ploughing.

Surveyed at 1/2500.

Visited by OS (ISS), 7 December 1972.

This turf-covered cairn is situated on a crest at an altitude of 215m OD and measures 12m in diameter. Two earthfast stones of a kerb survive on the SSE and W respectively; the perimeter has suffered from ploughing elsewhere.

NMRS MS/712/34, visited 7 November 1978.

This cairn stands on the summit of a low rounded hill about 800m WSW of Mains of Artloch. It measures about 11m in diameter by 0.8m in height and four stones of a substantial boulder kerb are visible on the S; the largest of the kerbstones measures 1m in length by 0.6m in height.
