Archaeology Notes

NJ41SW 21 c. 405 118.

A mesolithic flint-knapping site using Buchan flint has been found as far west as Broomhill (NJ 409 121) in Strathdon.

W D Simpson 1963; W D Simpson 1943.

Mr Thomson (J H Thomson, Mains of Glenbuchat, Glenbuchat), farmer, indicated the approximate position on the 6" sheet, at NJ 405 118 where Mr W Gordon of Broomhill, now deceased, 'found flint flakes a number of years ago'. Perambulation revealed no trace.

Visited by OS (R L) 29 August 1968.

(Name cited as White Hill).

NMRS, MS/712/46.

This flint-knapping site, the exact position of which is not recorded, is shrouded in a dense conifer plantation; no attempt was made to locate the site on the date of visit.

Visited by RCAHMS (JRS), 28 April 1997.
