(NJ 4906 1518) Chapel Yard (NR)
OS 6" map, Aberdeenshire, 2nd ed., (1902)
Chapel Yard is the name of a small square piece of unploughed land, east of Corbanchory and assumed to be the site of a chapel.
New Statistical Account (NSA) 1845; Name Book 1867.
There are the remains of a curving stone wall c.1.0m high, and what might be the remains of a rectangular building orientated ENE - WSW at Chapel Yard. They have been destroyed in the NE, and are so overgrown and masked by field clearance, that neither their true nature, nor accurate measurements can be ascertained. Tradition still known by local inhabitants who speak of a hill path known as the Priests Road which runs to the N from Chapel Yard.
Re-surveyed at 1/2500.
Visited by OS (A A) 11 September 1968.
The site of this chapel is marked by a small enclosure measuring about 10m square within a ruined drystone wall; the interior is choked with field-gathered stones and is overplanted with trees.
Visited by RCAHMS (JRS), 28 February 2000.
