Archaeology Notes

NH21SE 18 2926 1359

A building, situated to the W of a burn on the S-facing slopes above Tom na Fhearna, was recorded during a pre-afforestation survey at Dalchreichart. Built against a rock outcrop, this building measures 7m from NE to SW by 3m. The steepness of the slope suggests that the building was never occupied as a dwelling. A stone platform at the N end of the structure may have supported a still base. The building is depicted, roofed, on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Inverness-shire 1874, sheet lxvii) but it is shown as unroofed on the 2nd edition of the same map (Inverness-shire 1904, sheet 67).
