High Port
Ascends the hill under the railway bridge, immediately after which Back Station Road doubles back to the split-level station at platform level. The gracious Linlithgow Station, c.1840, probably John Miller, is a rare first-generation station for the Edinburgh & Glasgow Railway; good stone, cast-iron platform canopy, barrel-vaulted and glazed porch, and south platform waiting-room. Vivid mural by Marie-Louise Coulouris.
Taken from "West Lothian: An Illustrated Architectural Guide", by Stuart Eydmann, Richard Jaques and Charles McKean, 2008. Published by the Rutland Press http://www.rias.org.uk
Publication Account (2000)
The Victorian railway station, one of the best preserved original through stations completed by the Edinburgh and Glasgow Railway Company, still stands prominently above the east end of the High Street.
