(Name: NJ 4887 1630) Cameron's Hillock (NAT)

OS 6" map, Aberdeenshire, 2nd ed., (1902)

Cameron's Hillock is the name of the SW part of Cot Hill, traditionally the spot where Cameron, Laird of Brux and his two sons were killed and buried in an engagement with the Mowets of Aberceldie. 'It is said that a great number of graves were visible upon this hill till some 10 or 12 years ago when the present farmer bought the field under cultivation'.

Name Book 1867.

No trace of graves or cairns in the area. Tradition of 'battle' still known locally, but probably clearance heaps.

Visited by OS (A A) 11 September 1968.

Nothing is visible of these alleged graves, their site lying in what is now an arable field.

Visited by RCAHMS (JRS), 28 February 2000.
