(NJ 4897 1812) St. Machar's Chapel (NR) (Supposed Site of)

OS 6" map, Aberdeenshire, 1st ed., (1869)

At Machar's Haugh is a chapel dedicated to St. Marcarius or Macarius or Machar according to some authorities but the Name Book (1867) states that though a ruin had been here in living memory no local knowledge of a chapel survived.

Name Book 1867; H Scott 1915-61.

No further information.

Visited by OS (A A) 11 September 1968.

(Location cited as NJ 4897 1812). Well, perhaps related to St Machar's chapel. No trace remains.

NMRS, MS/712/45.
