Archaeology Notes

NJ40SE 5 497 030.

On the E of Crossfold in rough pasture are ten rings of various sizes, a dozen cairns, and a series of prehistoric walls, some ending in cairns, which extend to the N over the Tarland road where 43 cairns were counted.

Settlement and field system, centred at NJ 497 030.

Surveyed at 1/1250.

Visited by OS (A C) 30 October 1967.

There is a settlement of 8 hut circles varying in size from c.9.0m diameter to c.14.0m diameter, and an associateed field system denoted by field walls and large stone clearance heaps in an area of heathland at c.500ft OD. The fields vary in size from c.20.0m by c.17.0m to c. 60.0m by c.30.0m.
