St Margaret's Hall was designed by architect John Starforth and was opened in 1878. the hall held 1400 people, with a smaller hall for 600, committee rooms, library and billiard rooms.

In 1961 it was burnt out and then demolished and the site used for an extention to the Carnegie Central Library.
