(NJ 3147 3806) Standing Stone (NR)

OS 6" map, (1938)

A rude unhewn stone about 5' high (Name Book 1869). A stone 3'10" high and 7'8" in girth standing on the SW arc of a "distinct, large, oval, but slight mound" and so probably the last remnant of a stone circle - one is remembered here by the old residents; it is also said to have been removed and re-erected on the original site (F R Coles 1907).

Name Book 1869; F R Coles 1907.

A well-weathered standing stone, as described by Coles, but no trace of the mound seen by him.

Re-surveyed at 1/2500.

Visited by OS (N K B) 26 January 1967.
