Archaeology Notes

NS33NW 75 centred 3337 3445

A large army training camp is situated to the E of the main railway line some 2km N of Troon. Used in the Second World War, it consisted of large and small wooden huts, Nissen huts, recreational areas and a large parade ground in the centre. Between the camp and the railway several trench systems were dug. Parts of the camp have, since the war, been built on.

Information from RCAHMS, September 2000.
