Archaeology Notes

NJ31SE 15 3951 1250.

Deskry. At NJ 3951 1250 there is an indefinite rickle of 'cairn-like' stones protruding though the turf, measuring about 13.0m in diameter and 0.4m maximum height at a prominent point on the spine of a ridge. Although little remains to enable positive identification, the position suggests that this is a cairn. No finds have been reported.

Surveyed at 1/2500.

Visited by OS (N K B) 29 August 1968.

(Name cited as Deskry Hill). This location is open to N, S and W from an altitude of about 290m OD.

NMRS, MS/712/43.

(Name amended to Deskry Hill). This grass-grown cairn is situated on the crest of Deskry Hill, a prominent ridge between the River Don to the N and the Deskry Water to the S. It measures about 17.5m in diameter by about 0.5m in height where it is best preserved on the NE.

Visited by RCAHMS (JRS, PC), 10 Sept 1997.
