HY21NW 2 2339 1637.

(HY 2339 1636) Tumulus (NR) (Stone Cist found A.D. 1882)

O.S.6"map, Orkney, 2nd ed.,(1903).

This mound is some 40 ft in diameter and in a decayed state, and is generally known to be a burial mound.

RCAHMS 1946; Name Book 1880.

This is a circular, somewhat mutilated, grass-covered earthen mound, measuring c.12.5m in diameter and with a maximum height of c.0.7m, on the top of a ridge, in a pasture field.

In the centre of the mound there is a cist, possibly secondary, about 0.5 m. square by c.0.3m deep, access to which can only be gained through a small hole in the corner of the capstone.

Visited by OS(RL) 18 May 1966.

Activities

Field Visit (15 December 1993)

This bowl-shaped mound measures 12.m in diameter and 0.7m in height. It is visible for 1km to the SE.
