The 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Aberdeenshire, 1870, sheet xliv) notes the site of an Old Market Stance on S flank of the Hill of Christ's Kirk. With the exception of a gravel pit (NJ62NW 188) on its E side and an enclosure surrounding a memorial (NJ62NW 70) in its NE corner, the whole of the area indicated is planted with young trees.
