This granite boundary stone is situated at the S end of a carpark at the foot of the E flank of the Hill of Dunnideer. Rectangular in section, it measures 0.32m by 0.26m at the base and rises to a pyramidal top at a height of 0.87m. The upper 0.6m of the stone is dressed, the N face bearing an incised letter W, and the S face the letter O.
The stone is depicted on both the 1st and 2nd editions of the OS 6-inch map (Aberdeenshire, 1870, sheet xliv and 1901, sheet xliv.NW respectively).
Visited by RCAHMS (JRS), 25 May 1999.
This site, and others on Dunnideer Hill, was affected by a fire that spread across the grass and exposed archaeological features, including pottery and other materials. Historic Scotland funded a project to assess the damage the fire did to the upstanding archaeology, and any remains exposed by it or the fire brigade's work (they stripped turf in an attempt to contain the spreading fire).
