Activities

Watching Brief (January 2007)

Alba Archaeology (Highland) Ltd. was commissioned by Royal Haskoning to carry out an archaeological desk-based assessment and archaeological attendance in the form of watching briefs for trial pits forming part of the River Findhorn, Elgin and Forres (Burn of Mosset) FAS investigations.

Work commenced on the Ground Investigations of the Elgin FAS in January 2007 and continued until June. In total, 88 trial pits were excavated across Elgin for Packages 1-3.

Archaeological Evaluation (3 March 2014 - 7 March 2014)

The archaeological evaluation took place on 6-7 March 2014. Five trenches were excavated totalling 7% of the proposed development area. A standing building survey was also carried out on Hattonhill House and the Glen Moray Distillery cottages. Two burials and disarticulated bones were found in Trenches 1 and 5 and it is recommended that an archaeological excavation in the garden is carried out prior to any further work within the current development area.
