NS96SW 36 9399 6178 and 9429 6170

NS 9399 6178: Crofthead Iron Mine No.1: A pit on the estate of Crofthead in which ironstone is found and extensively worked by the occupiers, Holdsworth and Co. The property of Mr Waddell, Crofthead House.

NS 9429 6170: Crofthead Iron Mine No.7: One of the pits of the Coltness Iron Company's iron pits on the Crofthead Estate. They are numbered from 1 to 7; the whole goes under the name of 'Crofthead Iron Mines'.

Name Book (Linlithgowshire), 1855

The spoil heaps from the ironstone mines are visible on oblique aerial views taken in 2008 (RCAHMSAP 2008), W of a shelter belt of trees SW of Longridge village. The spoil heaps are grass grown on the top, and consist mainly of black spoil. All the remains are depicted on the current OS digital maps.
