Activities

Field Visit (18 August 2007 - 23 August 2007)

In August 2007, Alba Archaeology (Highland) Ltd, was commissioned by Haskoning UK Ltd, on behalf of Moray Flood Alleviation Schemes, to undertaken an archaeological desk-based assessment and walk-over survey of an area to the notheast of Elgin, Moray, due to undergo works associated with the Elgin FAS.

Much of the survey area was inaccessible because of un-harvested crops, but in the areas which were walked over no new sites of archaeological significance were encounted. However, a great number of cropmark sites dating to the Prehistoric and Medieval periods have previously been recorded.

It is recommended that watching briefs are issued on areas due to undergo ground-breaking works; trial trenching evaluations are suggested for areas of dense cropmarks.
