Archaeology Notes

NJ53SE 90 5722 3033

This grass-grown quarry is situated adjacent to the W side of a minor public road about 100m NNE of Woodside cottage (NJ53SE 90). It measures about 40m from NE to SW by 25m transversely and 1.5m in depth, and there is a low spoil-tip on the SW. The quarry is depicted on both the 1st and 2nd editions of the OS 6-inch map (Aberdeenshire, 1874, sheet xxxiv and 1901, sheet xxxiv.SE respectively); it is not shown on the modern 1:10,000 map (1993).

Visited by RCAHMS (JRS), 8 June 1999.
