A rough stone about 5' high and 3' broad which could be the remains of a stone circle according to local opinion.
Coles searched for this stone but could not find it. He assumed that it had been removed when the neighbouring wood was cut down.
Name Book 1871; F R Coles 1907.
A standing stone at NJ 2431 5475 measuring 1.4m in height, 0.6m broad at the top, 1.1m broad at the base and 0.4m thick. No trace of a stone circle.
Resurveyed at 1/2500.
Visited by OS (R L) 14 April 1971.
Field Visit (23 September 1943)
This stone stands just E of the Elgin-Rothes road, half a mile SSE of Coleburn Distillery and between the 5th and 6th milestones from Elgin. It is 4ft 2in high, 3ft 2in broad at the base, and 1ft 8in thick. Its major axis runs from NW to SW. (Photo by Prof. Childe).
