Archaeology Notes

HP61SW 16 6057 1346

The Loch of Cliff has an island cairn, but no causeway observed, (information from Dr T N Johnston). Dr Johnston thought this might be a crannog. (Possibly the 'Pile of Stones' at HP 6056 1347.)

F O Blundell 1913.

The only artificial feature on this very small islet at HP 6056 1347, is a collapsed modern cairn. There is no sign of a causeway, and although local tradition asserts that a wall once crossed the loch at this point, this is unlikely because of the considerable depth of the water.

Visited by OS (AA), 5 May 1969.
