On the 1797 plan of Earlsfield and part of Ardler (E 33891 CN and E 33892) a group of about 20 buildings and four enclosures is lightly depicted to the NE of the location of the present farm of Ardlair and annotated 'Ruins of Ardler'. Three buildings in the form of a 'U' with two enclosures, and a further rectangular building adjoining another enclosure are depicted fully shaded in approximately the same location as the current farm buildings.
A similar group of about 20 lightly shaded buildings with enclosures but without the annotation appears on the 1797 plan of Ardler (E 33894 and E 33895 CN). There are seven fully shaded buildings with two enclosures on this plan in approximately the same location as the current farm buildings. Information from Anne Cassells, 08 November 2007.
