Archaeology Notes

NN63NE 86 6602 3803

Cragganester House is a late-19th farmhouse, considerably extended from the original, with a (presumably) contemporary steading immediately to the NE, now converted for use as a garage and office. A farmstead comprising three buildings and an enclosure is depicted here on John Farquharson's 1769 Survey of the North Side of Loch Tay (National Archives of Scotland, RHP 973/1, Plan 10). A farmstead of quite different layout is depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Perthshire 1867, sheet lxix), and another near total remodelling of the settlement took place before the preparation of the 2nd edition of that map (Perthshire 1900, sheet lxix NW), which shows the present house and steading.
