Activities

Archaeological Evaluation (28 September 2016 - 4 October 2016)

A programme of archaeological investigative works was carried out for Urban Union Ltd in support of the initial stage of development at Laurieston TRA Phase 2a & 2b, Glasgow. The works tested archaeological potential to inform appropriate mitigation of impact.

The works consisted of an intrusive sample by trenching and test pits and were carried out between 28th September and 4th October 2016. Some 12 trenches and 3 test pits were excavated. The works identified the fragmentary remains of the Gorbals Brass and Bell Foundry on Bedford Lane as well as substructures for the Gorbals Baths and foundations for other Gorbals Street frontage buildings.

Recommendations based on the findings from this phase of evaluation have been made for the mitigation of impact. The proposed works would focus on recovering additional imformation on the layout and structure of the Gorbals Brass and Bell Foundry.
