Accessing Scotland's Past Project

About 250m north-east of Blackstank steading there are the remains of a single stone-walled hut-circle. Oval on plan, the structure measures about 11m by about 9m. To the west and south, several stone clearance heaps have been identified. These may be the remains of cultivation plots associated with the hut-circle.

Archaeology Notes

NJ23NE 6 2733 3785.

At NJ 2733 3785 in cleared woodland, is an oval stone-walled hut measuring about 11.0m from the N through the ill-defined entrance in the S, by about 9.0m transversely between the centres of a wall spread to about 2.5m.

To the W and S of the hut are a few stone clearance heaps probably from contemporary cultivation plots.

Surveyed at 1/2500.

Visited by OS (A A) 6 April 1971.
