Accessing Scotland's Past Project

Situated about 300m south-west of Achredgnie steading, in a field called 'standing stones', are two monoliths, arranged on a north-south axis. The smaller stone on the north is about 0.3m in height, 0.4m in length and about 0.1m wide while the southerly stone is about 0.7m in height, 0.3m in length and 0.3m in breadth. It is unknown whether these stones were part of a larger stone circle or stone alignment.

(NJ 2424 2450) Standing Stones (NR)

OS 6" map, Banffshire, 2nd ed., (1903)

Two small stones in a field called 'Standing Stones'. From this name and from the shape and position of the stones, Coles concluded that they were the remains of a stone circle.

F R Coles 1907.

Two small stones, 2.0m apart and no longer standing. The N measures 0.3m high x 0.4m x 0.1m, the S, 0.7m high x 0.3m x 0.3m The latter is lying almost prone. Insufficient evidence to suggest a stone circle.

Visited by OS (NKB) 25 August 1966.
