Templeland Farmhouse, from mid-18th century. Seat of the agricultural improver Lt Alexander Shand who acquired the estate in 1803 and became known as the King of Forgue. South part is earliest, with a later large central bow containing a staircase. The north-west wing, at right angles, is slightly later and the courtyard is completed by a single-storey laundry. All harled, forming quiet but picturesque group; walled garden. Lt Shand's father, who rose from the ranks of the Royal Artillery to become a full colonel, is commemorated on Hawk Hill by a ball-finial-topped obelisk on a tall inscribed base.
